Amanda E. CravensI was the little girl with lots of ideas. I drew scale models of my bedroom so I could try out ways of arranging the room. I read cookbooks and recorded a lifetime's worth of menu plans. Though admittedly my high school trigonometry teacher wasn't exactly enthusiastic when I pointed out the inefficient incentives in his grading scheme and lobbied for reforms!
My first job after graduating college was as a web editor for a public policy think tank. In this role and my subsequent work as an information architect, I was introduced to human-centered design, an approach to software development that places user needs front and center. Eventually, my twin interests in technology and environmental policy would send me back to graduate school. |
